Dental amalgamators are used to blend restorative materials like silver amalgam capsules and glass ionomer in the realm of dentistry. A computerized mixing mechanism controlled by a microprocessor is referred to as a contemporary amalgamator. This ensures a consistent, accurate, and regulated blend. A series electric motor and a holder for accepting the capsule containing the elements to be mixed for delivering the filling compound are the essential components of an amalgamator.

The ends of the capsule are held in a claw that oscillates in a figure-of-eight pattern in a standard amalgamator. During each toss, the design speeds the mixture towards each end of the capsule and strikes it with the pestle.
